Newhall Hamlet

The earliest recorded account of a settlement at Newhall was just after 1066 when land was granted to a Norman. From 12C to 15C Cistercian monks from nearby Roche Abbey farmed the land at Newhall until dissolution. The notable architect John Carr was responsible for building the current farmhouse and outbuildings, which were completed in 1802 for the Walker family who were iron founders in Rotherham. Iron founders Joshua Walker built cannons for the Admiralty used in the Battle of Waterloo. The outbuildings were developed for residential purposes in 2006.
